Nepal International Medical, Healthcare and Travel Insurance

Take out comprehensive international private medical and travel insurance before you travel to Nepal. If you are intending to travel at altitude, check that your insurance policy provides coverage.

At western travellers’ clinics in Nepal medical treatment is expensive. Outside the Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara healthcare quality is poor in most places.

Rapid Emergency Evacuation Issues

It may be difficult to get rapid helicopter evacuation if you fall ill or suffer a accident in Nepal. Make sure you have adequate international medical and travel-health insurance PLUS accessible funds to cover the cost of any medical treatment abroad. Repatriation and evacuation by helicopter presently costs between £1,000 and £2,000 per flying hour.

If you need emergency medical assistance during your trip, dial 102 and ask for an ambulance. You should contact your insurance/medical assistance company promptly if you are referred to a medical facility for treatment.
